AMERICAN ITALIAN FOOD COALITION URGES TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO CONTINUE ITS BALANCED APPROACH ON EU AIRBUS TARIFFS

By AIFC

AIFC Chairman Says, “Italy shouldn’t be penalized for the illegal actions of the Airbus consortium”

WASHINGTON – Today, American Italian Food Coalition Chairman and former Pennsylvania Congressman Lou Barletta urged the Trump Administration to continue to leave uniquely Italian food products off a retaliatory tariff list in response to illegal subsidies by the EU Airbus Consortium. The U.S. Trade Representative (UTSR) Robert Lighthizer opened a third carousel round of tariffs earlier this week.

“President Trump and his team made the right decision on Airbus tariffs before and I urge them to do so again. The Administration’s evenhanded approach should be maintained particularly during these challenging times,” Barletta said. “As we work as a nation to recover from COVID-19, we need to be especially cautious not to make things more difficult for small business owners like those in my home state of Pennsylvania who rely on Italian imports.”

The American Italian Food Coalition is an alliance of more than 450 Italian companies, manufacturers, and trade associations dedicated to ensuring American consumers continue to have access to high-quality, affordable imported Italian products including pasta, coffee, biscuits, and wafers. To learn more click HERE.
