The US/Italy Connection: A Rich History of Friendship
The United States’ relationship with Italy means a lot more than just the food Americans have grown to love – it is a long-standing relationship that dates back centuries, and has only grown stronger with time.
The United States and Italy share a strong partnership, actively seeking to foster democratic ideals and promoting international cooperation. This has been particularly true in cooperating on defense, security, and peacekeeping policies through our shared NATO membership and ties between the European Union, of which Italy is a key member, and the U.S.
Just last year, when Italy became the epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak in Europe, the United States authorized up to $100 million in economic and humanitarian support to assist the Italian government. We also closely cooperate on major economic issues, particularly regarding trade. In 2019, trade in goods and services between our two countries was valued at over $103 billion.
As both of our countries continue to recover from Covid-19, this mutually beneficial relationship is more important than ever. The AIFC is committed to maintaining and strengthening the governmental, cultural, and economic ties that have greatly benefited both countries for so many years.
